The much ballyhooed 27 QB class has lost some steam as the NFL season is set to begin. Most of the talking heads are backing off their enormous claims which tells you most of it was click bait. However, I still see this class as special — so will NFL brass very soon.

Arch Manning
TexasThe lights will shine bright in Texas with the hype and a tough schedule. Pundits like to bang on Manning, but he progressed nicely in his first season as starter. He is my first overall pick come April.

USCNot many are placing the Trojans QB as a first rounder — let alone a top ten pick. I see big time upside for the athletic QB with a big arm. USC will face stiff competition which will make or break my prediction of a top ten pick.

OregonMoore isn’t flashy — but is an efficient, smooth QB — he makes the position look easy. Likely would have been the 2nd overall pick this past draft — will still be a top ten selection following his decision to come back to the Ducks.

Ohio StateSayin had a remarkable season in his first season as starter — but it was stained by the last two contests, both losses. He put on some size — has a wealth of talent at his disposal — and will be in many primetime matchups. He will be a first round pick and a shot at the Heisman Trophy.

Texas Tech (sort of)Sorsby cost himself a season and a ton of money due to his fondness for gambling. He will be the forgotten man — but not to scouts. He has the size — arm strength and an uncanny knack to unload the ball from a variety of arm angles. He will be viewed as a risk — but his talent won’t let him slide into the 2nd.

Oklahoma St.His story is now well known — from a no star to a likely first round pick. The Cowboys will be a surprise team this season. He lit it up last year at North Texas. The feel good story will turn into a first round pick.

South CarolinaA very tough eval — enormous upside but his inconsistency his difficult to overlook. One gent in an NFL office told me he is Donavan McNabb. He certainly has the talent. Sellars is only 21 to boot. Gruden’s philosophy of taking a players best plays on tape to emulate what he can be — will drive Sellars up draft boards. He won’t be the 7th QB off the board — potentially a top ten pick but risky. Either way — I’m taking him in the first round.

Notre DameCarr isn’t related to the former NFL QB brothers — but he is the grandson of former Michigan HC Lloyd Carr. He is a mechanically sound QB — reminds me of Kirk Cousins — who will likely be one of the most ready QBs out of the gate but like Cousins — is limited. He like the previous 7 — could also sneak into the 1st round.

MiamiA balanced NFL profile rather than one rare trait — arm strength, accuracy and pocket mobility all grade at 8.50. He does not have the elite marks of the quarterbacks above him, but the foundation is coherent and the developmental upside is real.

LSUThe uber athletic QB transferred to the quiet — meek — new HC Lane Kiffin. The lights and pressure will be on Leavitt due to his big mouth head coach. He can play but is a bit reckless — plays bigger than his frame which results in big hits. Kind of reminds me of Jake “The Snake” Plummer.

MinnesotaBig QB who many have predicted in the top 5-10 picks! I don’t see that but PJ Fleck has a big time college QB. He will certainly go in round 2 if he stays healthy and continues to progress. The competition in the BIG Ten will be stiff once again on a team that doesn’t have the talent to compete with the big boys.
