About Scott Dryden
Scott Dryden is an independent NFL Draft analyst, sports journalist, and founder of Dryden Rare Breed Scouting™ — a proprietary scouting and evaluation system built on over a decade of football coverage at every level of the game.
Dryden's career in sports journalism began in the world of MMA, where from 2008 to 2011 he traveled the country covering live events large and small, broke national stories, and gained access to some of the most prestigious gyms in the sport. As Editor-in-Chief of ProFighting-fans.com and author of The Triangle Choke column — published in The Peoples Defender newspaper — Dryden interviewed some of the biggest names in combat sports, including legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach, UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer, and iconic referee Big John McCarthy. His interview with Roach was picked up by The Manila Times in the Philippines due to Roach's work with eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao. He covered Bellator ringside, visited the American Kickboxing Academy to profile a rising Cain Velasquez, and trained his camera on fighters like Rich Franklin and a then-unknown Jorge Masvidal. That foundation — chasing stories, evaluating talent, and going where the mainstream media wasn't — carried directly into his football work.
Since 2013, Dryden has covered the NFL and college football as an independent analyst and journalist. He has been published in several newspapers, appeared on multiple radio and television stations, covered the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, and authored published NFL Draft guides available on Amazon. His work has always been rooted in one philosophy — pure football, evaluated honestly, without the noise.
In 2026, Dryden launched Rare Breed Scouting as a home for serious football analysis. The site features full scouting reports built on the Rare Breed Grade™ system, mock drafts, Bengals coverage, and a podcast focused entirely on football — no politics, no pop culture, no filler.
Identifying the Rare Breed — that's the mission. It always has been.
